To accomplish anything in life, goals must be set. If you have no goals, you have nothing to work toward. You are more or less wandering around in the dark, hoping that something good comes out of nothing. Fortunately, you have the ability to buckle down and focus on what it is you want to accomplish and you can do so methodically.
However, there are two main areas of goal setting that you must concentrate on. Those areas are re-evaluation and reflection.
Re-evaluation
In re-evaluation, you re-evaluate what it is you want to accomplish. You’ve already stated that you want to accomplish this specific goal, so look into why it is you want to accomplish the goal. Is there some sort of monetary award? Will you feel better about yourself? What is in it for you?
Answer these questions and know what your reward is in the end so that you know what to strive toward.
Also in the re-evaluation stage, you must set micro goals to reach the big goal. In other words, you are going to create steps to get there. For instance, you may want to reach a certain step by the end of this week. By the end of next week you want to have step two completed. Write all of this down. Create a chart if you must so that you can keep yourself on track in reaching your goal.
Make sure you re-evaluate after each step is completed to ensure that there are no other steps that you must create. Sometimes when striving towards a goal, we learn more about that goal and how to reach it on the way. Sometimes that may result in a change in steps to get there, but don’t fret if that happens.
Reflection
Reflect upon the path you have taken to get there so far. Each time you accomplish a step in reaching your goal, you feel good about yourself. Don’t forget to think about the obstacles you have overcome and your finest moments. These are your motivators to keep on striving toward the ultimate goal.
If you don’t take a moment to sit back and reflect upon your progress, then you will not learn anything from the process and you will not have that sense of accomplishment that is needed when striving toward goals.
So keep in mind that after setting a goal you have to re-evaluate and reflect. You will be amazed at how far these two steps will take you toward reaching your goals and making your dreams come true. And keep in mind that you can re-evaluate and reflect no matter how large or small the goal may seem. All-in-all, there is no such thing as a small goal.
