YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, and the various other social media sites have changed the way many of us look at and use the Internet. As a matter of fact, there are individuals out there who have become famous from making themselves visible on these websites. With so many people on the Internet, how have they done this? Well, they have made themselves stand out.
Here are some individuals who have literally made themselves Internet celebrities by using social media:
• Julia Allison – She isn’t someone who can sing or act, but she can self-promote. She has created websites in which people simply follow her every move. From parties to dinners, people love to follow her. She wears crazy outfits and this simply keeps people intrigued with her. She even gives dating advice that people take to heart.
• Mark Zuckerberg – Mark is famous via social media because he created one of the largest websites that make this possible. He is the creator of Facebook and this has made him as famous, if not more famous, as Tom Anderson, the co-founder of MySpace.
• Chris Crocker – You can’t really talk about Internet fame without talking about Chris Crocker. His “Leave Britney Alone’ video catapulted him to number one on YouTube and brought about a lot of interest in his life. He still continues to create YouTube videos, has recorded music, is invited to red carpet events and displays different fashions from designers, and also has his own website in which Chris Crocker merchandise can be purchased.
• Adam Bahner – Adam Bahner, known as Tay Zonday on YouTube, was made famous by his song “Chocolate Rain” and has made various prime time appearances. He has since come out with other songs and has an Internet following.
There are many others working to establish their fame on the Internet through social media sites such as YouTube. They use their creativity to draw in an audience and some even make a living on the Internet by promoting products in their videos.
One way to measure Internet success is through such sites as the Online Celebrity Meter. There are other sites like this as well that have you plug in information such as your MySpace URL, Twitter URL, and your personal website. Data is compiled to see how famous you are on the Internet. The higher the number the better and this is a great way for you to know where you stand in your self-promotion if you hope to become famous on the Internet.
Basically, you have regular people here who came up with an idea and created something that they were able to take off with. Any time there is public interest, there is a lot of potential in “making it.”
